FAQ
The eight questions everyone asks before hosting a game server on their own PC, answered straight.
Yes. In self-host mode your PC is the server, that's why it's free. Close the game, the server keeps running in the background as a Windows service. Shut the PC down and the server goes offline until you're back. Want 24/7 without the PC? That's our Managed plan: one click moves your world to our hardware.
The free tier runs 1 server on your PC with a capped relay allowance and player limit. No queue, no ads, no daily hour cap, because your hardware does the heavy lifting and that costs us almost nothing. We make money when you outgrow free: more servers and bandwidth on Pro ($5/mo), or 24/7 hosting on Managed.
No. Friends get an address like frosty-peak-7821.use1.mrally.gg:24817, paste it into the game's join screen, and play. No app, no account, no VPN on their side. The use1 part just names the relay region closest to you. Friends don't need to know or care, the address works as one string.
Your friends connect through the relay point nearest to them. For most friend groups it plays like a rented server, and we'll publish real measured latency numbers as soon as we have them, not before. Your dashboard shows who's connected and how long each session has run, so you always know what's happening on your server.
The agent is a signed Windows app. It installs game servers from official sources (Steam, Mojang), runs them with limited permissions, and opens zero inbound ports: it only dials out. Game recipes are declarative, they can't run arbitrary code on your machine. Your home IP is never shown to players; they see the relay address.
Any game that ships a dedicated server: Minecraft (Java and Bedrock), Palworld, Valheim, Rust, Project Zomboid, Enshrouded, and 25+ more at launch, with new recipes added continuously. Games without a dedicated server (Valorant, GTA Online, Lethal Company) can't be hosted by anyone, including us. Browse the catalog or request a game.
Depends on the game. Minecraft for 5 friends: 4 GB of free RAM and any mid-range CPU from the last 6 years. Palworld or Rust: 8-16 GB free. Each game's page lists real numbers, and the app checks your hardware before installing so you're never surprised.
Yes. That's the whole point. The agent makes an outbound connection to our relay network, the same direction as loading a website, which works behind any NAT, CGNAT, dorm network, or hotel Wi-Fi. If you can browse, you can host.
